Beschreibung

As a research and development service, the contract is excluded from the scope of public procurement law (cf. § 116(1)(2) GWB). PipeWire is widely used across Linux distributions such as Ubuntu, Fedora, and openSUSE, and is integral to desktop environments like GNOME and KDE. It is critical because it unifies audio and video handling, providing a consistent and secure multimedia experience. This relevance extends to various applications including music playback, voice and video calls, and professional audio production. Serving the public interest, PipeWire enhances accessibility, supports devices like Bluetooth hearing aids, and ensures robust multimedia handling, improving user experience and inclusivity on Linux systems. This effort will support PipeWire, a low-latency, graph-based processing infrastructure for managing audio and video resources on Linux systems. PipeWire unifies the consumer and professional audio stacks, previously separated by PulseAudio and JACK, creating a cohesive user experience. It also provides a crucial video access layer that handles permissions, concurrency, and offers proper APIs for screensharing and remote desktop use cases. This technology is essential for modern Linux systems, ensuring efficient and secure handling of multimedia resources.
